They are preferred for mechanical spare parts and CNC‑machined components requiring strict assembly clearance.

Surface finish is another key difference. Hot‑rolled flat bars carry mill scale from hot rolling with rough surface at Ra≈12.5 μm. Sandblasting or pickling is required before painting or hot‑dip galvanizing to remove oxide scale. Cold‑drawn flat bars obtain bright scale‑free surfaces after die extrusion, reaching Ra 1.6‑3.2 μm. Such high surface quality allows direct painting or electroplating and reduces pre‑treatment workload, making them the mainstream supply option for bright flat bars.

Hardness and mechanical properties also differ significantly. For hot‑rolled flat bars, recrystallization occurs during hot rolling, bringing lower hardness, good ductility and excellent weldability for easy bending, cutting and on‑site welding work. Cold‑drawn flat bars gain higher hardness and tensile strength (20‑50 % improvement) via work‑hardening, while ductility decreases. They fit high‑load precision parts without heavy deformation.
